The AEROFUSE project (Alliance for the Future of the Aeronautics and Upstream Segment Skills Evolution) has officially launched, bringing together a strong consortium of 26 partners from 12 European countries to address critical skills challenges in the aerospace and defence sector.
Funded under the Erasmus+ programme, AEROFUSE aims to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness by equipping the workforce with the skills needed for the green, digital, and technological transformation of the aerospace ecosystem.
The aerospace sector is a key driver of innovation in Europe but is currently facing significant challenges, including rapid digitalisation, sustainability demands, demographic shifts, and growing skills mismatches. AEROFUSE responds to these challenges by developing a forward-looking strategy focused on skills intelligence, training, and workforce development.
A Collaborative European Effort
The project brings together universities, vocational education and training (VET) providers, industry clusters, SMEs, and research organisations. This diverse partnership ensures strong alignment between education and industry needs, enabling the development of practical and market-relevant solutions.
Key Objectives
AEROFUSE will:
Identify current and future skills needs in the aerospace sector
Develop innovative tools to assess and anticipate skills gaps
Design new higher education and vocational training curricula
Support upskilling and reskilling aligned with emerging job profiles
Promote lifelong learning and workforce adaptability
By focusing on areas such as aircraft production, satellite manufacturing, and airport infrastructure, the project targets domains not fully covered by previous initiatives.
Long-Term Impact
AEROFUSE aims to create a sustainable, long-term impact by fostering collaboration between education, industry, and policymakers. The project will contribute to reducing skills mismatches, improving employability, and supporting Europe’s transition toward a more resilient, innovative, and sustainable aerospace sector.
Through its network and community of practice, AEROFUSE will ensure that its results remain relevant and adaptable across different regional and national contexts.
